APRSD.CONF(5) File Formats Manual APRSD.CONF(5)

aprsd.confAutomatic Packet Reporting System daemon configuration file

The aprsd(8) daemon implements an Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS) tracker and digipeater.

The aprsd.conf config file is divided into the following main sections:

MACROS
User-defined variables may be defined and used later, simplifying the configuration file.
BEACON CONFIGURATION
Periodic beacons for position and object reports are set in this section.
DIGIPEATER CONFIGURATION
Filter rules for digipeating packets are set in this section.

The current line can be extended over multiple lines using a backslash (‘\’). Comments can be put anywhere in the file using a hash mark (‘#’), and extend to the end of the current line. Care should be taken when commenting out multi-line text: the comment is effective until the end of the entire block.

Argument names not beginning with a letter, digit, or underscore must be quoted.

Macros can be defined that will later be expanded in context. Macro names must start with a letter, digit, or underscore, and may contain any of those characters. Macro names may not be reserved words (for example, beacon, sensor, or longitude). Macros are not expanded inside quotes.

For example:

gps="nmea0"
beacon position sensor $gps

These define beacons to be transmitted periodically by aprsd(8).

position [no-timestamp] (sensor sensor | latitude latitude [north | south] longitude longitude [east | west]) [comment comment] [interval interval]

Register a position beacon to be transmitted every interval seconds using either the GPS location given by sensor or the fixed latitude and longitude. Fixed positions (latitude and longitude) are given in microdegrees. To convert degrees to microdegrees simply multiply by 10^6. The number must be positive. To indicate a negative latitude or longitude, use the south or west keywords respectively.

If the no-timestamp option is given then the beacon will use the format that does not contain a timestamp, which can be useful for machines that do not have a real-time clock. The comment can be set as a free-text field to be included in the position report.

object name name (sensor sensor | latitude latitude [north | south] longitude longitude [east | west]) [comment comment] [interval interval]

Register an object beacon. Most of the modifiers for an object beacon behave in the same way as for a position beacon.

Every object beacon must have a name, which must be no more than 6 characters and contain only letters and numbers. The comment can be set as a free-text field to be included in the object position report.
